awesome.

"skate study house" makes mid century modern looking furniture using skateboards, i'm in love with their limited edition "the waste is the best" collection, which puts to use the layers of the excess cutouts created when making a skateboard.  the resulting look is very modern, but with a rougher, more rustic look:
i think we've all seen benches, chairs, and shelves made out of skateboards.. skate study house does it in a way that is completely genius.

it's been a while. .

a whole month to be exact.. maybe it's because i haven't found anything really awesome that's worth posting about?

i'm trying to get my line ready for Spring '10, but it's proving to be more difficult than expected.  i got turned down for the loan i requested, which means that i've had to significantly pare down my current collection.  instead of a complete collection, it will consist mostly of T-shirts and tanks.  i'm still hoping to keep one pair of jeans (i did the washing and everything, why shouldn't i??), i'm also keeping three sweatshirts, a couple jackets, and a flannel, but then the rest of the collection will be six or eight T's and tanks.  i dropped off the last of the samples that need to get patterned today, then all that is left is to sample the jeans, and source a good fabric for my flannel, and my sweatshirts.  hopefully by mid july, i can put together a look-book and website!  i know you're gripping your seat.. calm down, it's coming soon.

April Playlist

for whatever reason i was entirely not present in life in general in april.  i have accomplished nothing.  no samples, no job(wtf? has it really been since november?), and not very much super awesome fantastic music to share.  my mood has been decidedly mellow lately.  i still love me some hardcore.  i still love me some punk.  and, i still love me so upbeat shit that i can shake my ass to.  but, lately, the only new music i'm in love with seems to be lumped into the folk category.  that being said, my april playlist is miniscule, maybe i'll add to it later.

anyways, here it is, there's a couple oldies but goodies in there for good measure:

deer hunter - never stops
annuals - springtime
elton john - mona lisas and mad hatters
fleet foxes - tiger mountain peasant song
hoots & hellmouth - want on nothing
justin vernon - return to you (did i mention i love him?)
iron & wine - on your wings
tom gabel - cowards sing at night
neil young - old man
brand new - not the sun
the national - blank slate
slow club - sinking, thinking, drinking, feeling
bon iver - flume

anddddd scene!

let's be real

we all knew it was only a matter of time before i attempt to push my musical taste on anyone who happens to read this.  so, if you haven't already, you should buy these four albums:

bon iver- blood bank ep
the national- boxer
yeasayer- all hour cymbals
grizzly bear- yellow house

oh and while you're at, it you may as well get the gaslight anthem- the '59 sound. . you can thank me later, when you're officially as obsessed with them as i am.

i'm getting antsy

lately my almost weekly trip to saks has been reduced to a half-assed walk through from one end to the other, clearly stating "i'm bored." and leaving promptly, bag of goodies not in hand.

i haven't seen anything that i really like in a while. . i keep hoping for some shining light and i haven't gotten it so far this year.  maybe as fashion week progresses we'll get something new and fresh, and wearable.  i'm finding that the "big brands" just don't do it for me anymore.  i used to love getting lost in bergdorf goodman, and now i find myself seeking out the tiny boutique in soho that sells "new" designers.  of course, high end small designers come at a high price, but it's become a price i'm willing to pay.  this is not because i have my own brand and hope that others will also be willing to pay said price, but because the floor at barneys is so very lack luster.

try harder.
